ICOMOS CAWG Climate Literacy Trainings for Heritage Experts in 2025-2027
Santiago, Chile with ICOMOS Chile (May 2025)
Organised by ICOMOS CAWG with ICOMOS Chile as part of the International Committee on Archaeological Heritage Management (ICAHM) annual conference. CLT was run over one day in the National Library, Santiago. The course was led by Dr Will Megarry (CAWG) and Dr Sarah Forgesson (CAWG) with simultaneous translation. Educational material was translated into Spanish.
Amman, Jordan with ICOMOS Jordan and ICOMOS Palestine (October 2025)
Organised by ICOMOS CAWG with ICOMOS Jordan and ICOMOS Palestine as part of a multi-day event exploring climate and heritage in the region, with financial support from the Irish Government, The British Council and Queen’s University Belfast, and logistical support from the Patra National Trust and the EAMENA Project. CLT was run over one day at the Amman International Hotel, Amman. The course was run in Arabic by Haifa Abdlhaleem (PNT, EEE Consulting) and Taher Falahat (PDTRA) who were early partners in the Preserving Legacies project.

Dublin, Ireland with ICOMOS Ireland (November 2025)
Organised by ICOMOS CAWG with ICOMOS Ireland as a standalone event, CLT was run over one day in the National Museum of Ireland, Collin’s Barracks, Dublin. The course was led by Dr Will Megarry (CAWG), Dr Cathy Daly (CAWG) and Dr Jordana Maguire (Queen’s University Belfast). Tallinn, Estonia with ICOMOS Estonia and regional ICOMOS national committees. With online deliveries (December 2025)
Organised by ICOMOS CAWG with ICOMOS Estonia as part of a mulit-day event exploring climate and built heritage. CLT was run over one day in Estonian Knighthood House, Tallinn, and in hybrid format. The course was run by Dr Will Megarry (CAWG), Prof Scott Heron (James Cook University) and Dr Ave Paulus. Special modules were given on historic buildings and traditional knowledge.

ICOMOS CAWG celebrates 18.04 with Climate Literacry Trainings Worldwide
Following the International Day for Monuments and Sites on 18 April 2026, the ICOMOS National Committees of Brazil and Australia organised Climate Literacy Trainings as part of the wider efforts led by the Climate Action Working Group (CAWG) to strengthen climate action across the cultural heritage sector.
Salvador and Brasilia, Brazil (April-May 2026)
Organised by ICOMOS CAWG and ICOMOS Brazil, led by CAWG members Dr Bruno de Andrade and Dr Luana Campos in Brasilia and Salvador. ICOMOS Climate Literacy Training in Central Asia, Usbekistan (3-5.Juky 2026)
From 1 to 3 July 2026, Sarmakand (Uzbekistan) hosted the Climate Literacy Training for Heritage Professionals in Central Asia. Developed by the ICOMOS Climate Action Working Group (CAWG), this regional training brought together 21 heritage professionals from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. Turkiye (July 2026). Organised by ICOMOS Turkiye and CAWG, with more than 70 participants.
USA, Getty Institute (July 2026), Getty Institute and ICOMOS CAWG. At the request of the Getty, the CAWG will deliver CLT to the Getty Conservation Institute in July 2026. This is supported by Dr Will Megarry and Julianne Polanco.
Slovenia (October 2026) ICOMOS CAWG and ICOMOS Slovenia collaboration includes the translation of CLT material into Slovenian.
Estonia (October 2026) . In cooperation with CAWG and ICOMOS Estonia, Cultural Ministry of Estonia, the CLT in Estonian language will be held in the beginning October of 2026, with added special module on traditional architecture (in Estonian), and an international conference on heritage homes; + expert dialogue and workshop in next days
Norway and Scandinavia May 2027. In cooperation with Nordic NCs and Wood committee, Sami Parliament of Norway and Nordland county, other partners, the CLT training with the specific focus on Arctic traditional knowledge will be held in Lofoten, Norway, in May of 2027.
